Balvina Montoya

Balvina was born in a small town called La Faterellia, where her father worked as a blacksmith and her mother worked their orchards with a few hired hands. She also had a younger brother named Arturo. She and Arturo were sickly children and their wellbeing was often fretted over by both parents, who constantly worried for their safety. Eventually, their constant illness caused both parents to despair, which was when the voice of the Great Father crept into their minds and asked if they might be interested in a life without pain. Both of Balvina's parents became followers of Nurgle, giving their bodies to him in exchange for release from their suffering. They also "blessed" their son with the change their great father granted them.

Balvina was forced to kill her family in self defense, but was injured by her brother. She fled to the woods, thinking her injury was blighted. After several days waiting to die, she was found by three hunters. They found her unconscious, and brought her back to La Faterellia, which by then had been overrun by followers of Nurgle. The three hunters were overwhelmed, and became blighted. Balvina stole the weapons they left on their horses, and shot each man in the back.

Discovering the three hunters' identifications with what was left on their horses, she stole one of them and rode towards their home. After a month of travel, she arrived in Altdorf, at the steps of a prestigious hunter named Abelard Fleischer. Balvina admitted her deeds to him, and discovered that he was the master of all three hunters she had killed. Impressed by her diligence and budding talent, he proclaimed that she would need to work extremely hard in order to make up for the deaths of such righteous and virtuous men.
